FOREWORD

The International Summer Academy aims at developing into a portal for musical activities with lecturers and course participants within the framework of a united Europe.
It comprises courses and lectures held by internationally renowned artists and teachers. The participants are offered the opportunity for instruction by experienced lecturers and can present their works, as
prepared during the courses, to a public audience.
This Summer Academy will take place for the 37th time.
The opening will be celebrated on July 1st, 2018.

The official opening will be held by the governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.
On the first evening of the academy, a concert with orchestral works by Beethoven, Paganini and Liszt will take place under the direction of Karen De Pastel. A series of traditional festive masses and special concerts by course participants in various atmospheric halls of the monastery also promise to convey musical enjoyment of high quality. Lectures and public discussions concerning musical topics give proof of a versatile and dynamic summer academy.
These performances and the musical depth achieved by the exchange of ideas have a high educational value and they create, after the motto „Europeans Build Bridges“, cultural and inter-human relationships between all five continents.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

The participation in the master courses is open to all students, musicians and music lovers. There is no age limitation for active participation. Provided that there is a sufficiently high number of participants, it is planned to encourage a cooperation between the various instrumental and vocal ensembles. Violinists who happen to play the viola as their second instrument are free to choose one of the two instruments for performance in ensemble groups.
